Hi! I think we can all agree that American Girl is going for the money. With higher priced items, no wonder we have a recession. I have been really disappointed about the higher prices, but there are two sides to this argument. Read on:
Side 1:
AG is about Girls
There isn't much to this side of the argument- except thousands of girls complaining about AG's high prices. Did you know in 2011, dolls will be $100? And that a four piece outfit costs $24-30 when it's still made in China? I know they need money, but girls put the 'girl' in American Girl!
Side 2:
AG is about $
This is true. But AG is company and needs money. My mom says that AG is probably losing customers because of the high prices (no surprise there) and they need to raise their prices in order to keep up production. Hmmm.... I believe in both sides, but this side is definitely stronger. Why else would you price a set of doll earrings at $7?
Also, did you know that American Girl will only donate up to $100,000 in the purchase of Kanani's Hawaiian Monk Seal?
So why do we keep buying AG products? Because the love for AG has been passed down by our older siblings or cousins and then the littler generation just ends up loving it. It's the same thing that happened with me. And those prices just want to make me try harder. Because no handmade outfit or copy cat doll accessory can replace the feeling of opening an American Girl box.
I hope that made sense,
Gabby

That made lots of sense! I agress with the whole thing, I started loving AG from my sisters. And now they are making their products oh os cute but oh so expensive!! I felt I needed Felicity just to say I have a retired HC who was one of the favorites and so on. It seems AG (now) only cares about money and making things cuter so they can get more money!
That was a great post. I agree with both sides.

If AG made Kanani $100 than maybe all dolls will be $100 (I know you said that,Gabby) or maybe it's just GOTYs?
I agree with both sides, but it does feel better when you open a red American Girl box instead of an homemade item(even though I love homemadethings!).
Made sense to me! I totally agree with that. I'm not sure I'm going to buy anymore from AG. I know that I don't want to buy any clothes, I can't afford them. I can get patterns from Liberty Jane for $3.99, so why spend 35 dollars on an outfit that would be more fun to design myself? If I do continue to buy from AG, it would probably only be for the Historical Characters.
I mean raising prices would make sense if AG made they're items in Germany or some country other than China because they're items they make are cheap!(No offense to people that are Chinese.)
Agreed with you all the way!
I totaly agree. I can't anything from american girl besides the magazines and that was only for two or three years and they skimmped on giving us the jumbo issues when we subscribed for them.
